Baxter plays Othello and Checkers. It doesn’t play them very well, but then again, neither do I. (As in Solarian II, like father like program or something.)
I wrote Baxter when I was 13, as part of my initiation into Macintosh C programming. It took off, and I ended up making it look pretty enough and adding enough features for it to be released as shareware. I was particularly proud of a few things, such as how it’s smaller than 800k, so it fits on an 800k disk, (remember those?) its neat anti-aliased help system, (very advanced for its day - circa 1993) and its extensive balloon help.
• Shareware Annoyance
Baxter is shareware, and it would be much appreciated if you helped support my efforts developing it by sending me a modest $10 shareware fee. You can do so with the enclosed “Register” application, or online at my web site. (http://www.pair.com/eden)
• Version History
1.0d6•• rerelease (10/26/97) - Changed nomenclature from Trevden Sherzell, my pen name, to Eden Sherry, my real name, cleaned up this ReadMe, and included the Kagi registration stuff.
1.0d6 (5/19/93) - Added checkers, online help, balloon help, AppleEvents, reworked most of the interface, lotsa other stuff. Turned out to be pretty buggy. Luckily, it wasn’t widely released...
